Introducing Kings of Chelsea’s in-house Interior Designer

3rd July 2019

Interested in our interior design services? For a limited time only we are offering free 1 hour interior design consultations with our very own designer Cristiano Alves. We caught up with him to hear about how he works and what inspires him…

What are your favourite interior design trends at the moment and why?

Well, actually I do not follow trends but I love to see new materials, suppliers and see what’s going on in the interior industry. What I currently find interesting is the use of environmentally friendly and recycled materials as well as so-called biophilic design, which will become very important for all of us

Who are you inspired by in the design world and why?

I love travelling, understanding different cultures and how people interact with space. Their values and beliefs have great impact when I develop a project.

Also I love the fashion industry – for me luxury brands are a great inspiration and I do appreciate how to combine colours, mix textures and to deliver excellence.

What defines luxury design?

Sophisticated materials, craftsmanship, deep research and in particular a well-made product. Luxury has obsession for details and always delivers a sense of exclusivity.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am working on multiple projects at the moment,  dealing with people from different cultures and also to different briefs. This is a great  opportunity to identify different clients profiles, understand their personality and develop beautiful and harmonious layouts.

If you could design a house for anyone in the world who would it be and why?

Oh! Unfortunately she died, but I would love to have designed a house for Audrey Hepburn. In my opinion her image/ personality oozes sophistication.  I love to create sophisticated interiors or even contemporary with minimalist pieces with a hint of luxury.

What are your favourite furniture and accessory pieces at Kings of Chelsea?

There are a lot!! One of my current favourites is Cooper table with luxurious natural white onyx as the main feature material, offset by a precise but retro-styled base executed in metallic finishes. It looks back and forward at the same time stylistically.

Do you have any tips for budding interior designers out there?

Be creative, think about functionality, explore different materials and most importantly of all –  make your client happy!
